About

As an expression of growing maturity of the interdisciplinary concept, at the end of an admirably series of conferences honored by the active participation of high class specialists from our country and foreigners, this V-th National Conference for Interdisciplinary Studies in Internal Medicine, proposed itself this subject : “Pain”. In a world that studies genetic engineering, cloning and other like this, the dedication of an entire conference to such a symptom like pain, might seem a superficial approach, an excessive gesture. But still, Stanley Wiener (1998) says:
” (…) 36% of the most important symptoms at the first medical exam is pain”.

Let’s not forget, meanwhile, what David Morris wrote in his great work “La Cultura del Dolor” (Buenos Aires, 1996) :
” Pain evolved in the same time with men. It’s part of our everyday life, our relevant moments of life, it invades the myths, the art in all kind of representation and even in science”.
